Hey guys will here welcome back to the channel now today’s video I’m particularly excited about because we finally get to start putting some of our nice hardware Into our case so if you haven’t been following a build so far We’ve covered things like building this custom perspex bottom plate We’ve covered modifying the case for our vertical GPU mount as well which we’ll be going in a little bit later on Also an overview all the hardware that’s going into the case as well and a couple of little bits and pieces so in this video We’re going to be taking a look at the asus rog Maximus xcode motherboard, which features the xethru cemani chipset for their new eighth generation i7 processors from Intel So we’re gonna be opening up the box having a look at what you actually get inside the box because it is a pretty expensive Motherboard what do you actually get for the money having a look at the features and benefits? The various inputs and outputs that are on the board basically all that kind of stuff So we’ll start off by having a look at what you get for your money And then we’ll look at actually populating the board with our hardware so we’ve got our tight Triton Z RGB from g

skill 32 gigabytes of RAM to put in we’ve got our I 780 700 K processor as well our Samsung 960 Pro m2 SSD which is a 2 terabyte card there? So excited about that one because that cost me an absolute fortune And then of course out in case of premise the Evo waterblock as well to install so we’ll be Populating the board hopefully getting installed into the case as well And that will be it for this video so stick around let’s get stuck into it ok so first things first here we do have a Anti-static mat here or static protection mat now I see a lot of videos of people playing around with PC hardware on YouTube and I don’t think I’ve ever seen somebody actually takes static precautions So I’m gonna do it in this video whether or not you think it’s a worthwhile thing is up to you But you know in my years of experience with working on electronics I’ve seen plenty of things get fried from inadequate some static protection, so we’re going to do it So I’m gonna put my wrist strap on all right

So I’m plugged into ground now so any static that I build up in my body will automatically get Discharged and won’t cause a problem, so let’s open up the box and the first thing you’ll notice is It’s a really really sexy clean box to open It’s really nicely presented there with the Republic of gamers logo on the top there I’ll show you that quickly as well, so Republic of gamers there now is always very very heavy on the gaming branding and one of the reasons I chose this motherboard was because It’s one of the ones with less sort of flashy graphics and stuff on it, and I’m not really into that stuff but that’s just a personal preference thing, but we’ll take the Protective layer off here, and you can see the motherboard Itself so we’ll lift that out and give you a proper look at that in just a moment But we’ll move that out of the way For now to uncover the rest of the stuff It’s in the box So we’ve got a sticker sheet here now as I was mentioning before I’m not a big fan of gaming stuff So it’s nice that they give you the stickers and the stickers aren’t automatically on the ball all over the place And there’s plenty of stuff here you can put door stickers on and case stickers heaps of stuff there So not sure exactly what the intended purpose for every single one of those is, but it’s all there nonetheless Then we’ve got our destruction manual a Voucher for Cable mod now 20% off cable mod would have been nice before I bought all the gear because I spent one hundred and fifteen dollars on cable mod gear, but oh whoa, so we’ve got a Drivers CD now I don’t know how many people have a machine these days that has a optical drive But it’s there obviously all the drivers are available online as well So and I tend to just jump online and download the latest drivers anyway, so not too fussed about that There’s another ROG emblem sticker in there as well nice metal Embossed one so that’s pretty cool We’ve got our motherboard layout which is obviously important tells you What all the various different ins and outs are?

how to install your RAM how to install your CPU so we’ll be using all of that a little bit later on in this video And then We’ve got more stuff So we’ve got another another ROG emblem another seuss emblem put that aside and what appears to be a Drink coaster as well So they really do spoil you rotten with all the various different gaming things that they give you so if you’re into that stuff that’s pretty awesome a Nice way to make it feel like a nice premium product for the money, and then a very comprehensive manual as well Which you know the usual kind of stuff the same guide that we just saw in that flip out sheet But will no doubt be referring to this a lot Over the next couple of days as we sort everything out and get everything plugged in so then we lift these little flaps as well or the one flap no two flaps one flap here, and we’ve got a Cpu guide or adapter a little motherboard header riser thing our SLI adapter there for up to two graphics cards We’ve got our Wi-Fi antennas and What looks like a some sort of bracket? I’ll have to look up and find out what that is I’m not sure Oh, you know this would be this would be the support bracket for the for the m2 slot that goes horizontal to the board I would imagine so you mount your M2 in that and then mount it to the motherboard so it’s lots of support, so that’s good and then another little Couple of there’s a little there’s a little riser or spacer there and a screw as well, I’m assuming That’s probably something to do with the SSD storage as well But we’ll look into all of that a little bit later on when we install the SSD into the board and then underneath this one we’ve got a USB three breakout cable of some description a Adapter cable for the RGB header what looks like solder cables? Another that looks like an extension cable for the RGB, which is great because I’m probably going to need that and then Another side of cable so look it comes with pretty much everything that you’re going to need most of you accessories tend to come with The leads that you’re going to need anyway So it’s great that they include those extras now Lift this up and see if there’s any more surprises underneath not just the same stuff that we already saw Pack that back down and it’s time to take a closer look at the motherboard Okay, so before we start to plug stuff into it I just want to run through a couple of the specs for you quickly on the board So it is a socket one one five one for the eighth generation core Intel processors, so it’s a Z 370 chipset So dual-channel ddr2 ram of course four slots there supporting up to 4,000 133 megahertz which is great so – 16 x PCIe slots which are these two guys here? so you can see there’s three PCIe slots here it supports nvidia sli for two cards or AMD crossfire for up to three cards so that’s the key features there I’ll give you a quick look at the side of the board here, too So we can see a nice panel here, surround-sound digital output We’ve got our network port our super speed USB ease our BIOS flashing port there as well now This is something I just wanted to touch on quickly as well, so it does have BIOS flash back as well Which means if you do mess something up with your BIOS if you flash a bad ROM or something like that you can easily? Roll it over to the other BIOS boot it up and then flash the other chip back again So no worries there if you do screw up something with BIOS Gone are the old days of bricking motherboards so to speak? So I won’t cover this in a great amount of detail now because we will get into this in more detail once we start Overclocking and doing all that kind of stuff once It’s all installed, but we do have a couple of buttons here as well that help us with BIOS related stuff So we’ve got a safe boot here

We’ve got a retry button and also a memory check button as well There’s also some LEDs next to the connector here as well Which allow us to see what various different failures are as well as a 7 segment LCD screen here as well Which will show up various different error codes that tell you what’s wrong if the system fails to post You’ve also got a start and reset button on the motherboard here for Testing purposes as well so handy stuff They’re pretty standard for most motherboards of this calibre these days Now moving on to the various other inputs and outputs that we have we’ve got 6 SATA ports on the side here at USB 3 breakout, so we’ve got our front panel audio We’ve got a couple of RG B’s here CPU fans and case fans chassis fans We’ve got a water pump connection here as well, which will be great that supports PWM water pumps So you can actually control the speed of the pump too on the load or the temperature which is great? We’ve got our front panel connector here What else have we got here We’ve got flow indicator water temperatures case temperatures more fan connections so pretty much everything you’re ever going to want there Which is great? There’s a couple more fan connections up here as well So I know as well the high end Output for a fan up here as well now most of the fan outputs on this board support up to one amp

This one supports three amps so three times the amount of current I can supply and that’s going to drive Pretty much any 12-volt fan that you can imagine inside your average case so that is a good one to have there as well So that just about does it for a quick overview of the board now if there is anything that you’d like more detail on do Let me know in the comments below because of course we are going to be covering everything in more detail once we get the board Installed we start overclocking and plugging stuff in so do let me know if there’s anything specific You’d like to know and I will cover it in a future video, but now let’s get stuck into actually populating this board we’ll put the Will put the SSD storage in first then the CPU and water block and then finally the RAM and then install it into the case Alright, so let’s move along and get our samsung 960 pro m2 storage installed So what we need to do is remove this heatsink panel here We are so one two three screws now I’m going to be really careful not to scratch these screws because they are visible inside the case So just a standard Philips head screwdriver nothing fancy And three and the heatsink should lift off Like so so you can see here There’s a thermal strip here, which will peel off once you’ve installed the card The card will slot in just here And then we’ll use that little riser that we saw at the start of the video and the screw To mount it into position you can also see there the UM CMOS battery as well, so hopefully that’s got some charge in it So let’s get our storage card out of its box Nice Tape here My hands are getting a little shaky I’m nervous because it’s all so expensive I don’t want to mess anything up Alright, so pop this out of the box Something so small costs so much money

It’s ridiculous Isn’t it? Then again if he told if you told me 10 years ago that you’d be able to buy 2 terabytes of storage on something that size I probably wouldn’t have believed you so Again, I’ve got my static protection on I’m being very very careful here And what we want to do is just Like so and our riser is going to go into this port here, so leave that there for now grab our riser The interesting thing here is that it does have this sticker on it, but the heatsink Obviously has thermal compound on it, so I’m probably going to need to take that sticker off it to make this work properly So I’m just going to check the instructions quickly and see if there is anything About that before I proceed further so I actually just managed to get hold of a Samsung technician And they’ve told me that if I remove this label I also void the warranty on the unit which Annoys me because I know that I’m gonna get better I’m gonna get better thermal Thermal performance if I remove that sticker, but obviously I don’t want to avoid the warranty on an untested brand-new $1500 SSD so what I’m gonna, do is I’m going to mount the heatsink on top of that label now I have cleaned the label to make sure there’s no fingerprints or dust on it they are telling me that they don’t think it’s gonna make any difference in terms of performance and that the thing doesn’t straddle anyway because It does have a copper heatsink on the back It doesn’t sit right with me, but I’m not willing to void the warranty for the sake of peeling off a sticker So we’re going to just do it the way they say so we’re going to peel off The thermal tape will peel off the protection on the thermal tape here And mount our heat sink On to the SSD like so so we’ll screw that down And I want to put a whole lot of tension on those screws because I don’t want to put pressure on The SSD I can actually feel the thermal tape moving around a little bit in there so just Be nice and gentle this one’s not so important, but this one I don’t want to do up to super tight I Guess any heatsink is better than no heat sink right, so we’ll just have to wait and see how it goes We’ll definitely be doing some temperature monitoring later on anyway, so Out of sight out of mind, it’s installed Well okay, now on to the CPU, okay, so CPU time so there’s a couple of things that we need to do before we actually drop the CPU into the motherboard because we’re using an ek supremacy Evo water box, so we’ve got our CPU installation tool Which comes with the motherboard? We’ve also got the hardware here for the waterblock as well as some thermal compound so it comes with a little rubber gasket which we’re going to remove the inner Little piece, and it should just sort of pull out Like this now Remove that out Like so and the gasket is going to sit on the motherboard Like that make sure that the the holes are lined up As you can see like that so one two three four We’re going to place this So the screw holes align, so this part will be pointing downwards And we want to make sure that the ribs are facing upward so drop it into position like so Now we need to flip the board over now

We’ve got a couple of different size Screws here We want to use the one that has the longer post here the threads won’t reach on this one So we’re going to use a washer underneath like that mm-hmm Flip the board over and then screw the posts in so it’s gonna be a little bit tricky to do here With one hand but I’ll do my best so hold it in position flip the board over And with the washer installed Drop it in the hole And screw it down probably put that down on the ground now because I’ve got one installed So next one and obviously be very very careful You don’t damage any components around there and drop it in

Now if you feel any resistance at all you’re doing it wrong basically it should screw in very easily We’re only doing them finger tight They’re not meant to be done up with pliers or anything like that everything kind of is spring-loaded at the end So don’t need to worry about it being too tight just do it up as tight as you can with your fingers And that is that so just double-check it flip it over again quickly

Make sure everything looks like it’s nice and tight and there’s no cross threading going on Everything looks good All right time to install our CPU all right So now that we’ve got our post installed and nice and secure we’re going to put our static strap back on while I remember and It is time to unbox our virgin CPU so cut the warranty seal And what we’re going to be doing is installing the CPU Into this little bracket that comes off or a helper tool that comes with the movie motherboard So we’ll undo that from its case right now Okay a little instruction booklet So what we basically do is we click the CPU into this which is like an alignment tool basically And then we drop it into the slot

We install it Take the old cover off, and yeah, we’re done now Try as hard as you can not to touch the surface of the CPU because obviously we want to keep it as clean as possible And pop open the lid Flip it over now There’s a little Triangle mark that you can see just there and on the bottom of this There’s a little triangle marker as well that we’re going to drop the CPU in To the tool Just click it in to position Try to keep your fingers off the surface if you can And make sure that pin 1 is aligned In a correct position and once you’ve done that it should flip over without sliding out so that’s fine

Then we want to take our arm pop that out Remove the protective plastic cover like so See if your here into the slot Put the lid down And that is it our CPU is installed the next step is to mount the CPU block or the water block all right so now we get to the part where we’re actually going to install the water block onto the CPU so we want to clean the Surface we’ve got our thermal compound ready now the water block did come with some thermal grizzly compound I’m going to use Arctic silver 5 because that’s what I’m used to that’s what I’ve always been happy with the performance I’m sure there’ll be a million people in the comments That will tell me I’m an idiot or that I’m doing the right thing you feel free to fight it out I’m just going to do what I want because it’s my computer, so we’ve got our Arctic silver 5 We’ve got our water block CPU

I’ve got a little pot with some 100 percent alcohol or Isopropyl alcohol there I’ve got a q-tip which I’m going to use to just clean the surface very very gently and Then we’ll drop the CPU on obviously the CPU block on remove the cover there put it straight on Everything’s going to happen pretty quickly once we get started and we’re going to drop our springs on Drop our nuts on the top and we’ll be done so it will put everything Where we’re going to need it, so there’s no stuffing around Take our water block pick out of the case So we’ll remove The protective coating off that absolutely laughs so the first thing we want to do is Clean our CPU so just a little bit of alcohol, and I’m going to set that aside now So I don’t bump it by accident just rub It across the surface Very very gently just to clean off any fingerprints that we might have accidentally left We’re putting everything together and you can see that evaporates off very very quickly

So it’s done Wait for it to fully evaporate Take a thermal compound now again This is something that people argue about What I’m going to do is I’m going to put a blob about the size of two grains of rice in the middle and the reason we do it in the middle is that dive the cpu is in the middle and The rest of it is actually thermal compound underneath here now We’ll talk a little bit later on about D living and the benefits of that I’m not going to deal with this CPU because it’s a brand new CPU and we’re gonna see how things go with temperatures if we find we need to do it later we can of course But we’ll talk about that later So we’re just going to put a blob right in the middle about the size of two grains of rice Hopefully it doesn’t come out too quickly that Should be plenty So Now be very very careful You don’t accidentally spread that across any other areas of the motherboard because it is conductive so Particularly Arctic silver because it does have silver in it it is conductive so if you mess that up

And you spread it across a capacitor or anything else that’s conductive on the motherboard you will damage it so next we want to peel off the backing From our brand-new Water block and look how beautiful and shiny that is we’ll quickly flip it over Before we get any dirt on it make sure we’ve got it oriented the right way up so that sits on top of the CPU like so Nice and straightforward, then we drop our springs on – I Know what we’re going to do is just tighten these down now we want to do it in a cross pattern But we need to do to it once We don’t want to be putting a lot of pressure on one angle So we’re going to go to Until it’s kind of a little bit tight until we start to feel some resistance then – and then we’ll tighten it around one two Three four – at a time so drop these on Just until it starts to bite a little bit you feel it’s gripping All right now we just want to go to 1/2 So take the cap off make sure we don’t you lose that little washer And you can see it’s got a nice finger hold up thumb Grip there, so just screw it in Screw it down nice and tight and what did I just say about losing the washer don’t lose the washer Just tight enough that we don’t lose it and same with the other one So if you did happen to purchase the Three millimeter LED lighting kit for the waterblock you can install that now too, so they just simply shove in On either side Be very careful not to snap off the legs obviously but shove them into the holes and Then just run your cables Somewhere safe like that and we’ll install that into the motherboard tuck it over the back and All will be well with the world done Okay, so the last thing that we want to install before we install the motherboard into the case is our RAM So we’ve got gskill ddr4 thirty-two hundred megahertz Cass sixteen I think of what Cass sixty maybe fifteen let’s have a look

What was it? 16 Cass 16 and there is 32 gigabytes of that there as well So let’s open that box up and we can install it into the motherboard, and then we can install the motherboard into the pcs so looking at the dims Themselves the numbers are all sequential so 1 2 3 4 in the serial number so they actually came off the production line in that order so theoretically They should be perfectly matched to each other But I am going to take the ones that are packaged together Just to be absolutely sure and install them in the same channel so on the motherboard

We’ve got channel 1 slot 1 channel 1 slot 2 Channel 2 slot 1 and channel 2 slot 2 so we’re going to put the two that are together in one slot Two slots and then the other two that are together in three and four so let’s go ahead and do that There’s a lonely plug in one way so don’t get it wrong So that is our motherboard populated now We just need to install it into the case All right, so we’re going to case on its side And we’re ready to install the motherboard so what you just want to do is make sure You’ve got your standoffs in the correct positions for the motherboard that you have so my motherboard I’ve already checked is nine screws so one two three four five six seven eight nine Just make sure you don’t have any in the wrong splice because if you do obviously you could risk damaging the back of the motherboard Scratching it up and whatnot so just double-check that beforehand in this case had them pre-installed

But just check and then we simply take the motherboard And Lower it into position and want to be careful Don’t damage anything or scratch anything so just very gently move this out of the way to And then it should be as simple as just installing the screws Okay, so it’s starting to look like a computer now We’ve got the motherboard in reservoir is in fans are in radiators are in and we are getting through this now so Look I’ve done a little bit of cable management here, which I haven’t covered in the video Just because it’s a simple stuff like plugging in their headers all that sort of stuff We haven’t done all of our power cables yet But look if you are interested in the cable management side of things do let me know in the comments And I’m happy to make a video about it But some you know I think it’s kind of a bit of a boring thing to watch and it’s all pretty common sensical But what I might do is once everything’s done

I might sort of make a video just sort of covering the details of how it was all done You know nobody’s going to want to sit there for Half an hour watching me plug stuff in so so I haven’t really covered it in the video now back some look Hopefully you have found the details of this video interesting and useful Obviously we covered a lot of stuff in this so there’s anything that you’d like to know more about Do let me know in the comments I’m happy to cover stuff in more detail of course as well if you’ve seen me do something that you disagree with or you think
