What she did need however was something that was small, slim, lightweight and had enough power to do a lot of standard daytoday tasks without having to make her wait around for ages When it comes to smaller laptops, as you well know usually you have to pick between something that's small but not necessarily as powerful or something that's powerful but a little bit chunky When you want both, you normally have to pay a premium In this instance that wasn't the case when you think of slim laptops firstly may be thinking of Apple otherwise you're probably going to be thinking about the XPS range by Dell but there is a new contender and for me I really like the Asus range I think their laptops look really nice and desirable so it just so happens and my wife ended up picking the Asus Vivobook s14 now this is a really good laptop and I'm going to run through some of the features why she decided to get that laptop Of course I did have something to do with it, I did persuade her a little bit

So here's the laptop and as you can see it's quite small it's a very thin and let's go through some of the features One of the main features of this laptop is it's 188 millimeters thick and it weighs in at 14 kilograms which is very light for a laptop The other thing is it's a 14 inch screen but they are claiming it's in a 13 inch chassis and they're saying that because they're using their nano edge technology which makes the bezel around the screen so small that it almost looks like it's a 13 inch laptop

The other thing with this laptop is that has a nice backlit display keyboard it uses the windows precision drivers for the touchpad so it can support the touch gestures so the vivo book range starts with their entry level at 400 pounds and that comes with an Intel i3 processor However the one my wife decided to get was the upper model which was around 800 pounds and that comes with the eighth generation Intel i5 processor now this laptop also comes with eight gigabytes of ddr4 Ram One of the main reasons this laptop was slightly more expensive is because it came with the 512 SSD storage I think the entrylevel one came with 128 gigabytes The laptop has a nice screen, it's very bright and it also has four modes that are available It has normal, vivid, it has an eye care mode which reduces the amount of blue in the screen and it also has manual so you can completely customize the display as you need

It also has a really good viewing angle of 178 degrees which means that you're not going to have the screen dimming on you if you're not viewing it at exactly the right angle One of the downsides to this laptop is it doesn't have the 1080p resolution, it only has HD which is a little bit less and I'll be honest with you, at this price point it is a little disappointing not to have that 1080p But that said, there are a lot of people that do not need that higher resolution and actually it makes the screen more manageable and viewable when you're on the go This laptop does have a HDMI socket so if you wanted to plug it into an external monitor at some point to have a higher resolution screen than that is perfectly possible Moving on to connections of this laptop this is another outstanding point of the laptop

It has 1x USB C, 1x USB 3 and it also has 2x USB 2 ports It also has the HDMI socket and an SD card reader So this means that you can use this laptop when you're out and about You don't need to carry lots of dongles or adapters with you You can pretty much plug everything in as you would expect and this is one advantage this laptop has that let's say a lot of the newer Apple Macbooks do not have

They seem to be cutting back on the number of connections on the laptops and it really doesn't make sense why you need to carry all of these extra adapters for no reason So let's quickly talk about battery life We've only just got this laptop so I haven't been able to do a full battery life test on it, however one of the main reasons we got this laptop is because of the technology in it It's got something called the super battery which means you can set it to only charge up to 60% or 80% of full charge and what that means is that your battery over the longterm of its lifespan should last three times longer than normal This is a common downside of a lot of laptops they seem to die after about 18 months, 24 months and then you have to buy a new battery

This can be quite expensive or sometimes a new laptop Hopefully this will not be the case with the Asus This laptop comes with dual band WiFi and Asus are claiming that it is up to six times faster than conventional WiFi speed so that is really good I think they are saying it goes up to 867 megabits over the network so that should be really good if you are having to transfer files quite regularly via WiFi Whilst I don't want to call this a complete review because we haven't had the opportunity to use the laptop too much yet

What I will say, is that if you are looking for a portable laptop that's really nice and slim portable maybe your travel blogger or maybe just a student that has to carry the laptop around in your bag all the time This laptop is really great What I will say is it's not going to be ideal if you're looking for a gaming laptop or maybe if you're doing video editing and you need something that's a 1080p screen It would work quite well if you have that external display, but I think the screen isn't going to have the same resolution that you need for those sort of tasks That said, the screen is really nice and clear and I think above all the laptop is more than powerful enough to do most tasks especially seeing as the new Intel i5 range have four cores whereas in previous generations of Intel the i5 ever only had two cores

You definitely gain a lot of performance in this laptop that maybe only six to twelve months ago you would not have had right guys, I hope you found this video helpful Don't forget to leave a comment below if you have any questions about this particular laptop or if you want any more information on other laptops or you're still undecided on what to get If you did like the video please give us a thumbs up and if you really enjoyed the content consider subscribing for future videos I'll catch you soon guys, take it easy, peace!
